the NDP won 23 seats (gain of 3 seats) and 32.8% of the vote, retaining
official opposition status. In the 1999 elections, the NDP won 32 seats
(gain of 9 seats) and 44.5% of the vote, capturing majority governing
status. In the 2003 elections, the NDP won 35 seats (gain of 3 seats)
