PARTY LEADERSHIP:
Candidate for Leader of the Manitoba Progressive Conservative Party, November 1983. First ballot: 1st place (out of three candidates) with 261 votes - 47.5%. Second ballot: Filmon defeated Brian Ransom for Leader by a vote of 297 (54%) to 251 (46%).

Leader, Manitoba Progressive Conservative Party (November 1983 - November 2000). In 1986, the PC won 26 seats (gain of 4), but remained the official opposition. In 1988, the PC won 25 seats (loss of 1) and captured minority governing status. In 1990, the PC won 30 seats (gain of 6) and captured majority governing status. In 1995, the PC won 31 seats (gain of 2) and held majority governing status. In 1999, the PC won 24 seats (a loss of 7 seats), which reduced the PC to official opposition status. Filmon resigned as Leader in 2000.
