LEADERSHIP:
Candidate for Leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party,
January 1985. First ballot: 3rd place (out of four candidates) with
378 votes - 22%. Second ballot: 2nd place with 514 votes (31%). Third
place: Frank Miller defeated Grossman for Leader by a vote of 869 (52%)
to 792 (48%). After a poor showing by the PC in the May 1985 provincial
elections, Miller was toppled as Premier in June 1985 and soon after
resigned as Leader.
Candidate for
Leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, November 1985.
First ballot: 1st place (out of three candidates) with 752 votes - 45%.
Second ballot: Grossman defeated Dennis Timbrell for Leader by a vote
of 848 (50.6%) to 829 (49.4%).
Leader of the
Ontario Progressive Conservative Party (January 1986 - September 1987).
In the 1987 elections, the PC won 16 seats (a loss of 36 seats, including
Grossman's own seat). The PC also lost Official Opposition status to
the NDP. Immediately following the provincial elections, Grossman resigned
as Leader.
