In the 2003 elections, the NDP won 7 seats (loss of 2 seats) and 14.7% of the vote. In the 2007 elections, the NDP won 10 seats (gain of 3 seats) and 16.8% of the vote.

Candidate for Leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party, June 2002. First ballot: 1st place (out of four candidates) with 649 votes - 33.7%. Second ballot: 1st place with 806 votes (42.4%). Third ballot: Hampton was elected Leader over Frances Lankin by a vote of 971 (55%) to 793 (45%).
