Candidate for Leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada, April 1971. First ballot: 3rd place (out of five candidates) with 299 votes - 17.6%. Second ballot: 3rd place with 347 votes (20.5%). Third ballot: 3rd place with 431 votes (25.6%). Eliminated from the race after the third ballot. David Lewis was elected Leader on the fourth ballot.
