PARTY LEADERSHIP:
Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, March 2004 - present. In the 2004 elections, the Conservatives won 99 seats (gain of 21 seats over the combined previous election performance of the Canadian Alliance and Progressive Consevatives) and retained Official Opposition status. In the 2006 elections, the Conservatives won 124 seats (gain of 25 seats) and 36.7% of the vote, and captured minority governing status. In the 2008 elections, the Conservatives won 143 seats (gain of 19 seats) and 37.7% of the vote, retaining minority governing status.

Leader of the Canadian Alliance, March 2002 - December 2003. In October 2003, the Canadian Alliance and the Progressive Conservative Party announced they would merge to form a new party named the Conservative Party of Canada. When both parties formally ratified this agreement in December 2003, Harper's term as Leader ended with the dissolution of the Canadian Alliance.
