LEADER / LE CHEF: Jean-Serge Brisson. BRIEF HISTORY: Founded in 1973, the Libertarian Party fielded it's first federal candidate in 1974. No party member has ever won a federal election. In 2006, the LP nominated 10 candidates and captured 3,002 votes (0.02%). GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Libertarian Party espouses a laissez faire platform emphasizing minimal government, elimination of nearly all taxes, protecting all property and individual rights free of unwanted government interference, free trade, and a non-interventionist foreign policy.
