Leader, Alberta Progressive Conservative Party (March 1965 - October 1985). In 1967, the PC won 6 seats (gain of 6 seats) and 26% of the vote, and earned Official Opposition status. In 1971, the PC won 49 seats (gain of 43 seats), and captured majority governing status. In 1975, the PC won 69 seats (gain of 20 seats) and held majority governing status. In 1979, the PC won 74 seats (gain of 5 seats) and held majority governing status. In 1982, the PC won 75 of the 79 seats (gain of 1 seat) and held majority governing status. Lougheed retired as Leader in October 1985.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Lougheed is the grandson of Sir James Alexander Lougheed, who served as a federal Senator from 1889-1925 and as a Minister in Prime Minister Robert Borden's Cabinet from 1915-1921.
